Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024: Honest Review

Finally, the 2024 Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite Third edition is out. However, it is not compared to the last version; it is not too different.

The main difference between the Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite third edition and its predecessor is the improved processor and processing power of the new model.

It features a powerful Exynos 1280 processor compared to a weaker Exynos 9611 processor on the 2022 Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite.  Although it is slightly cheaper, it is not as good as the Exynos 1380 (5 nm) chip found on the older Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE-01

The Galaxy S6 Lite 2024 is a good pick for most beginners and will come in a very affordable price range. As improvements from the older version, the current version comes with Android 14 already installed and comes packed with a new and sleeker look than earlier options.

Unfortunately, you will not have a free charger like before. You will have to buy it separately. This might add to the price, but not too much since the Galaxy S6 Lite 2024 is generally a cheap tablet.

Below is a detailed review to help you know what to look forward to.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 Specs

Screen and Display

The screen has not faced too many changes on the new tablet. It still has a 10.4-inch screen and 2000 x 1200 pixels.

We all hoped for a better refresh rate of at least 90 Hz and above, like many similarly priced tablets, but this was not upgraded. You still have a 60 Hz refresh rate, which is exactly half as high as on an iPad Pro.

This is quite low and might have problems when playing heavy games on the screen or editing high-quality videos.

Most budget tablets have been upgraded to at least 90 to 100 Hz. A good example is the Redmi Pad SE with 90 Hz and the Lenovo Tab P12 Gen 2, which pushes the limit up to even 120 Hz.

It is not all bad, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE will offer a slightly larger screen with better resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate as well.

If you are looking for a more crisp display, I would pick the Tab S9 FE any day over the S6 Lite. The size difference between 10.4 and 11 is negligible, but resolution and other screen aspects are not.

S Pen Compatibility

The Samsung S Pen is precise and reliable. It still comes with a regular S Pen with no dust-proof features. It, however, features perfect pressure sensitivity and +/- 60 degree tilt recognition, which is ideal for drawing.

It would work better on a fully laminated screen with a higher refresh rate, but you will not notice any issues on the S6 Lite 2024 screen despite the low 60 Hz refresh rate.

What is nice and unique about the S Pen is its consistency. The pen on the more expensive Samsung S9 Ultra and other premium Samsung tablets is exactly the same as on the cheaper Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite.

Body and build quality

The body is still exactly the same as its predecessors. It features a firm and sturdy, fully metallic body. This makes it durable and not easily breakable.

Its front side features slim bezels surrounding the full-screen view that give the tablet a cool and modern look. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite 2024 is also slim and lightweight, making it easy to carry around.

It only weighs 0.5 kg with a 7-mm-thin body. This feature, plus a long battery life of up to 7.5 hours, ensures it is still a budget-friendly portable tablet to use out of the office.

Cameras are okay, but by far not the best. It comes with a 5-megapixelfront camera for selfies and an 8-megapixel rear camera for photos. I rarely used these cameras, mostly preferring to use my smartphone, which was better.

Processing Power

First, this tablet will run on the new, upgradable Android 14 operating system. You will be able to run the maximum system updates automatically for a couple of years, avoiding malware issues.

To save your files, you will need 64 or 128 GB of storage space. Although it is quite low, you will have an expandable MicroSD card slot up to 1 TB to upgrade. This, however, is bought separately.

The Galaxy S6 Lite runs on an Exynos 1280 processor, which is good for most tasks. Unfortunately, the 4 GB of RAM is only good for basic tasks such as streaming but will lag on complex projects.

This processor is more powerful than the older Exynos 9611 on the Samsung Galaxy S6 lite 2022 and many other other budget tablets like the Lenovo Tab M11. You will notice faster response and performance on your tablet whether plating games or drawing.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite supports DEX keyboard mode for typing just like a laptop keyboard. However, you will have to buy this accessory separate adding to the price.

The tablet comes with a powerful and diverse camera set up that allows you to shoot different Photo types and high quality video. The Rear Camera comes at 8.0 MP resolution with Auto Focus capability but no Flash. This is perfect for photography and video recording.

The front camera features only 5.0 MP resolution which is not the best but is good enough for Web conferencing. Both cameras will allow video recording in Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second. This is high resolution, crisp and clear.

If you prefer using earphones or headphones, you will have a 3.5 mm Audio Jack to connect. For a more immersive sound experience, the tablet comes with a stereo speakers system tuned by AKG. It is perfect for Reading Sheet Music and streaming videos.

Conclusion

The 2024 Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite has not changed a lot compared to the 2022 and 2020 versions.

It is still one of the cheapest tablets with a premium-level pen. The screen is okay but has not changed at all from the earlier versions.

Generally, the body and build seem old, with totally no changes compared to the older options. Only the processor has undergone significant improvements with the new Exynos 1280 version.

Like many Samsung tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024 is very competitively priced especially when you consider its powerful specifications. In future, the price is expected to go down as more creatives buy the device since it is currently very new only officially released on March 28 2024.
