Huion Kamvas Studio 16 is a new Pen computer tablet for both professional and beginner digital artists. However, it still has its fair share of shortcomings like its bulky weight and short battery life.

Design and Build Quality

The Kamvas Studio 16 features a sleek design with a large sensitive screen covering the front side of the tablet’s body. It features thin 1.8 mm thick bezels and a dark black plastic material covering the sides of the screen. The back looks black and modern It is tough and durable thanks to a metallic rear side.

It has 2 USB-C ports one for charging and the other for connectivity. Additionally, you will have a 3.5 mm audio jack to connect to your headphones for music lovers. The tablet is quite heavy, weighing a hooping 1.7 kg plus a T200 stand that further limits portability.

For security, it features a sensitive fingerprint scanner that is as good as older iPad Minis. Facial recognition like iPad Pros would have been a major improvement but it is still secure. Maybe next time. On the tablet body, you have two minimalistic cameras with 5.0MP (Front-facing and 8.0MP (Rear). Although not the best, you can use the for conferencing and taking photos.

The GPU is not the best but will allow compatibility with any application that your laptop can handle. For example, you have 512 GB SSD storage that can install the latest Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

On purchase, you will get a free Huion PenTech 3.0+ plus, three standard nibs and three felt nibs touch controls. The pen is good for drawing thanks to the standard 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity on the pen. The Huion PenTech 3.0+ will allow you to create precise strokes and lines on its large screen.

Although it seems nice and ergonomically designed like a natural pencil feel but is lacking in some aspects. The pen input lacks palm rejection especially if you have sweaty palms. Huion does not provide a free drawing glove like Simbans Picasso Tablets as an accessory which would help a lot.

Comparison to Alternatives

The Huion Kamvas Studio 16 is a good option for Professional and beginner artists who want a computer and pen they can do their creative work on.

It is not the first Pen computer tablet from the Huion brand. They had earlier made the larger Kamvas Studio 22 but it was discontinued to give way to some new premium tablets, that is the Huion Kamvas Studio 16 and Huion Kamvas Studio 24. To add to their list of standalone tablets, they have a new small-size option that is the Kamvas Slate 10.

Most similar sized tablets like the Kamvas Pro 16 and Wacom Cintiq 16 do not compare to it since they are all pen displays and must connect to computers. However if you prefer Wacom tablets but still need a standalone device, we recommend the Wacom Mobile Studio Pro 13 or 16. Although these are high-end professional graphics tablets, the Kamvas Studio 16 provides a good reliable and affordable alternative.

Finally, this tablet runs on a Windows operating system. Windows OS tablets are poorly optimized for touch gestures and will be effective even on accidental touching. iPads or Android tablets do not face this problem so I hope it has been resolved on the new Android OS Kamvas Slate 10.
