Artificial intelligence has disrupted a lot of Industries since its popularisation. Graphic design has not been left behind. You can use it to Upscale an Image. A low-resolution image is not recommended for graphic design.
It appears pixelated and does not look good. In the past, the only option was to have the image replaced with a better one.
However, with AI, it is possible to upscale the image and increase its overall resolution and quality. Many tools are available.
Some require you to install an application on your computer while others are fully online applications. There are also paid and free options to choose from. When using Ai to upscale, I prefer using those that I do not have to sign up or log in to use. This saves me a lot of time.
In this post, I will explain 2 of my favorite image upscalers that I use in my regular workflow. Pixelcut could have been third but you cannot upscale to 4K on the free package.
My favorite ways to Upscale an Image
ILoveimg – No need to install
ILoveimg is one of my favorite options in this category. You can easily use it without having to install it on your computer.
You simply have to use the application on your browser with an internet connection. Unfortunately, it is a paid service and can only upscale 2 images in 24 hours.
This is good for me but is quite limited. Luckily you have a lot of additional applications on the site such as an image compressor, Photo editor, and an image converter to JPEG from any format.
To use the upscale, go to the official website.
Select images and navigate to your image. You can also drag and drop your image to the big blue button. The image is uploaded, and the upscale process begins. Below is an example of a low-resolution image.

Once uploaded, you can choose how big you need the image to be upscaled to. You can choose either 2K or 4 K upscale options.
The 2 K option is smaller at 736 x 736 pixels while the larger one is 15 bigger. Below is the 4 K upscale option. It measures 1472 x 1472 Px. Click the upscale button then download the upscaled image. your image. Below is the upscaled image.
Once you upscale 2 images, it will prompt you to make payments.
Upscayl – Offline upscaler
Unlike the ILoveimg which is online and used without installing it on your computer, the Upscayl is the best Offline upscaler. You have to install it on your computer to start using it.
It is system-intensive and will lag for a while as you start upscaling your document. Upscayl is compatible with both PC and MAC. Be Careful when choosing your version.
Download and install the application. To use it, choose the select image option and navigate to your low-resolution photo.
Choose the settings you want then click upscayl. The image is upgraded and downloaded in the same folder as the original one. Below is the larger image after upscaling.
Steps How to Upscale an Image Online
- Upload the image to the tool you are using
- Choose the desired scale size like X2
- You can enable additional features if available and necessary
- Download the upscaled image.
