When you place an image in your illustrator software when designing, the image is saved as a link in the computer and not copied into the illustrator file. When you move your file to another computer and fail to embed images, the file Ai file will appear without the images because the file links to a path not in the new computer.
What’s an Embedded Image
When you embed an image in illustrator, it means that your image is saved in illustrator and can be used independent of your computer. To know whether the image is embedded or not, just click on it to select. If it is not embedded, it will have an X shaped line over it. If embedded it will only have a border selection.
Why Should You Embed Images
When you have images embedded, you can easily edit the file from another computer without having to look for the images again. If you are working as a team, embedded images will help you save time because anyone who will open the file to edit will have all images in place and not have to keep adding them.
How to Embed an image in illustrator
The first way to embed an image is by clicking the top bar. When you place the image on the artboard and select it, you will notice a button labelled embed on the top bar. when you click on it, the image is embedded in illustrator.
You can also embed an image from the links panel. After placing the image, got Window>Links to bring up the links panel. Select the image you want to embed. Click the 3 lines on the top right of the links panel and choose embed image.
