How to copy and paste in Adobe Illustrator using your Keyboard

How to copy and paste on Illustrator

To copy and paste an object or group of objects in Illustrator, follow these steps:

  1. Select the object or group of objects that you want to copy.
  2. Press “Command+C” on a Mac or “Control+C” on a PC to copy the selected objects.
  3. Press “Command+V” on a Mac or “Control+V” on a PC to paste the copied objects.
  4. The pasted objects will appear in your work area.

How to paste in place in Illustrator

When you follow the above steps the object is pasted but not in the exact position as the original. To paste the object exactly on top of the original one, follow the below steps.

  1. Select the object you want to duplicate
  2. Press Control>C or Command>C on a MAC
  3. Then, Press Control>F or Command>F on a MAC

The object will be pasted exactly on the original one.

How to copy and paste from the Edit menu

  1. Select the object or group of objects that you want to copy.
  2. Go to Edit > Copy
  3. Go to Edit > Paste

Click and drag down the layer to the bottom + sign in the panel and the layer will be duplicated.
