Remove the cap from the Pencil and plug the pencil into your iPad. To confirm whether it is charging just go to settings and go to Apple Pencil. It will show the amount of available charge and whether it is charging or not.

The second way you can charge it is by connecting to a lightning cable using a USB C adapter that comes with your pencil. The main disadvantage of using this method is you will not know how far your pencil has charged or if it is even charging.
