Method 1: how to align text in illustrator Using the Align Panel

If you have sentence text in different lines, you can use the Alignment Panel to Align the texts. To bring up the align panel, got Window>Align.  A pop-up Window will come up. Click and hold align on the bottom right corner and choose Align to Selection.

Step 1: Click V to pick the selection tool. Click on each of the text lines you want to center while holding down the shift key.

Step 2: To center Align all the text, click on the Horizontal center align option.

If you want to Align to the center of the artboard, choose Align to Artboard instead of Selection.

Method 2: Using Paragraph Style

If the text is in a paragraph or text box, you will need to use the Paragraph Alignment to center the text. If you do not know how to add a text box, just choose the text tool and then click and drag to form a rectangle shape. Type inside the box created.

Step 1: Select the text in the text box that you have just created. 

Step 2: Bring up the Paragraph align tool by going to Window>Type>Paragraph. A pop up menu comes up with some paragraph options.

Step 3: Choose the Align Center option and your text is centered. You can try out the other options such as left align, right align, hyphenated paragraph, and many more.

Method 3: Using Area Type Options in illustrator center text

The last way that you can use to center text in Illustrator is by using the Area Type Options. I will show you although the 2 methods above are the ones I most commonly use.

Step 1: Select the text you want to center

Step 2: Go to Type > Area Type Options.

Step 3: In the Area Type Options dialog box, you will find a “Vertical Align” drop-down menu.

Step 4: Choose your desired vertical alignment option from the drop-down menu. You can select from the top, center, bottom, or justify options.
